In Plato’s popular Hippias Minor, Socrates is quoted as saying, “I don’t want to work. I just want to bang on the drum all day.” You will learn this and other percussion-related funformation with today’s deal: for $4, you get one admission (up to $8 value) to the Rhythm! Discovery Center. This Groupon is valid for all ticket price levels, so you can buy one for the multiple people you know who enjoy hitting things with other things. Children under the age of five get in for free.
Rhythm! Discovery Center is an extension of the Percussive Arts Society, a secret drum circle that has kept the Elder Gods from consuming our reality by playing an uninterrupted drum solo for the past three millennia, circumventing the Elders’ vow to return from the bar as soon as they hear the guitars kick back in. But this isn’t the kind of museum where you’ll be constantly nagging your kids to stop unwrapping the mummies: Rhythm! is designed to be completely interactive.
At 15,000 square feet with three different feature galleries, the museum maintains the most extensive and unique display of rare percussion instruments and artifacts from around the world—and you get to play with many of them. Feel the vibrations from striking an 8-foot drum—just don’t hit it twice. You’ll also find over 150 different kinds of drums from all over the world.
While some will insist that you can’t teach rhythm, man, Rhythm! ensures that you can at least teach your kids rhythm outside of the house, where they’ll be less likely to accidentally break something you treasure, such as Grandma’s fine china or Grandma.
Rhythm! Discovery Center was named Best Offbeat Museum by Indianapolis Monthly, and has been featured on WTIU public television:

Percussive Arts Society
More than 50 years old and 8,500 members strong, the Percussive Arts Society (PAS) strives to promote percussion through education, research, and performances across the world. To carry out this mission, the organization includes more than 50 chapters in the US and 28 chapters abroad, all of which communicate online via resources such as lessons, free practice exercises, and annual events. Each year PAS hosts the annual Percussive Arts Society International Convention—the largest of its kind in the world—in which exhibitors convene to showcase the newest developments in percussion technology, instruments, and publications. The convention also includes over 120 clinics and performances with lauded artists covering all genres and styles of music.
