My daughter loved the experience, I am going back for the summer camp that they offer. The nstructors were great with the kids and kind and gave lots of information to the parents.

My son really enjoyed the class, his instructor Joe was friendly and knowledgeable. I am a bit frustrated, however, because we were not approached after the last class about coming back in a regular member capacity. I've emailed asking for details and have not heard back. We'd like to continue with classes, but can't if we're not able to get more information.

Wayne was amazing and converted my son to a regular membership. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Just as and FYI, the building is not ADA accessible. My wife had a difficult time getting into the building to watch my son practice.

What You'll Get

Fencing is America's favorite sport because it combines the visceral excitement of swordplay with the stylish outfits of beekeeping. Fight fashionably with this Groupon.

Choose Between Two Options

  • $20 for two beginners’ fencing classes (a $40 value)
  • $35 for four beginners’ fencing classes (an $80 value)

Skillful fencing depends on coordination of the limbs, an ability that students learn in beginners’ classes. Instructors focus on the development of basic footwork, slowly pairing it with simple bladework used for offense, defense, and counterattacks. The skills apply to both the foil and épée styles of swords and can be taught to students aged 6 and older.

Richmond Fencing Club

Richmond Fencing Club has molded budding fencers since JFK was president and humankind had just turned its eyes to the moon. Today, three instructors—each with their own titles from the Virginia Division Championships—helm the educational efforts, overseeing a program that educates students as young as 6 in the foot- and bladework required to wield a fencing foil competitively.

They teach in a no-nonsense facility, its cinderblock walls decorated only with pegs to hang fencing equipment, its smooth hardwood floors interrupted only by well-worn fencing lanes. The fencing-dedicated space keeps elaborately uniformed students cool with central air conditioning instead of replacing helmets with ice buckets like lesser establishments.
