Rio Azul Mexican Bar and Grill
Ernesto Gastelum was born and raised in the Mexican state of Sinaloa, a region known for dishes starring its famous poultry and seafood. Today, as the chef and owner of Rio Azul Mexican Bar and Grill, he continues to draw inspiration from the food he ate as a child. The result? Authentic, homestyle Mexican dishes. Diners can dig into green corn tamales, for instance, or piping-hot bowls of abondigas soup with meatballs, both made from Chef Gastelum's family recipes.
Long before he headed up Rio Azul's kitchen, Chef Gastelum worked his way up the culinary ladder, displaying a perseverance and passion for cooking that shows in signature dishes such as the grilled quail. It's served with sautéed tomatoes and vegetables, plus a side of creamy diablo salsa. It's this creativity, mixed with masterful classics (and salt-rimmed margaritas), that helped earn his eatery a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor, along with acclaim from local publications that dubbed Rio Azul one of the area's top-three Mexican restaurants and home to its best margarita.
