Laughter is the best medicine, though it tends to be the worst legal defense. Salute the healing art of comedy with today's Groupon: for $8, you get two tickets to see River City Improv (an $18 value) at the Ladies Literary Club downtown. This Groupon is valid for two admissions ($9 each) to one of six performances: Sept. 18, Oct. 2, Oct. 16, Nov. 6, Nov. 20, or Dec. 4. Both tickets must be used at the same show. Shows start at 7:33 p.m., with doors opening an hour before.
River City Improv is a group of Calvin College alumni and supporters who perform clean comedy for audiences of all ages. Through a series of improvisational-comedy games, the performers deliver quick karate chops of hilarity, splitting sides and tingling funny bones. Props, wigs, and even folding chairs do their part to ignite imaginations in this specialized blend of laughs, similar to the short-form improv seen on Whose Line is It Anyway?. No lines are written out and nothing is planned ahead of time, ensuring that no two shows are alike. Feel free to shout out suggestions because, as in operating rooms and Senate sessions, audience participation is encouraged.
Call the box office to reserve your seat, gather a fellow connoisseur of chuckles and chortles, and enjoy a night of off-the-cuff and on-the-up-and-up improv comedy from River City Improv.
