Unlike summer camps, boot camps won't require you to put on a fundraising talent show to stop a nefarious computer company from turning Lake Cowabunga into its new industrial-waste depository. Team up to fight unfitness with today's Groupon: for $48, you get five weeks of boot-camp classes with 20 classes total from River Market Boot Camp (a $199 value).
Led by owner and trainer Wayne D. Bashay II, River Market Boot Camp's cadre of CPR-trained motivational drill sergeants barks amiably at participants, coaxing them through a variety of terrain, obstacles, and climates to boost strength, balance, agility, and mental wellbeing. Classes, which can be made up of as few as 10 people or more than 35, run through an intense exercise regimen, incorporating plyometrics and resistance training, and the group dynamic pushes campers to break through personal barriers without stops for nappytime. Participants utilize the River Market area to their exercise advantage, using street curbs as pushup boosters and looking toward skyscrapers as a model for sturdy torsos. All participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat, a pair of dumbbells, and a notebook for a food log. Check out the class schedule to find the camp dates and times that best fit your schedule.
