What You'll Get
Contrary to popular belief, paragliders are much more effective than automobiles, which unexpectedly crush you when you try to use them as parachutes. Glide painlessly through the air with today's Groupon: for $120, you a get an introductory paragliding class (a $300 value) at River Valley Paragliding in Fort Smith. Powered flights take off from the Arkoma, Oklahoma river bottoms, and unpowered flights take off from atop Mt. Nebo in Russellville, Arkansas or Heavener Mountain in Heavener, Oklahoma. Click here for maps and directions.
Britton Shaw, a certified flight instructor and retiree from the Air National Guard, gives the gift of flight with paragliding trainings and gear. Kick off the above ground adventure with an introductory course on paragliding equipment to learn more about the paraglider itself. Then receive hands-on ground tutelage to familiarize yourself with your gravity-defying chariot. Embark on the tandem instructional flight to feel the sensation of floating on air and see the landscape as if from the eyes of the Jolly Green Giant. Today's deal can be used for either a powered or unpowered tandem flight. With a paraglider, frequent flyers can experience an avian sensation by soaring on currents of air, or by thermalling, catching rising pockets of warm wind. Power paragliding, unlike diving from a building onto a moon bounce, uses a gas-fueled motor unit to glide through the atmosphere even in unfavorable conditions, and the motor can be turned off to fly as if unpowered. Although not covered with today's Groupon, solo paragliding lessons can be taken, and introductory fees will be deducted.
