What You'll Get
The horse and buggy was a popular method of early transportation, far surpassing the bug and buggy, which could barely move and was often destroyed by squeamish gunslingers. Saddle up with today's Groupon: for $25, you get a 30-minute horse riding lesson and a 15-minute grooming session at River Wind Farm in Pembroke (an $82 value).
River Wind Farm is a full-service equestrian facility boasting informative lessons and interactive training to riders of all ages and skill levels. This introductory lesson will familiarize students with various aspects of equestrianism, with a focus on safety, horsemanship, and sportsmanship during fierce games of equine freeze tag. Lessons are designed for the casual to competitive rider, with a fully stocked stable of 40 school horses, allowing students to saunter, canter, and gallop to their heart's content. The lesson is also accompanied by a 15-minute grooming session, which bestows students with basic and useful factoids about preparing a horse for riding and putting it away after a steam bath and a bedtime story. River Wind Farm hosts a stable of experienced trainers, such as Carl Catani and Abigail Greer, who will work with rein-holders of any experience level, helping students to meet their own individual goals as riders.
River Wind Farm has been taming bucking broncos and shy stallions for more than 30 years with a concentration on hunter and jumper styles. The school instructs beginners as well as national competitors and accommodates all interests, from curious newbies to professional horse-showing enthusiasts. The facilities offer two outdoor rings and an indoor arena for rainy day lessons, as well as two large fields where horses can freely mosey, graze, wager sugar cubes on their favorite human runners.
