Rock Hill Winery
Don DuPont, raised in Sonoma County, spent decades working as a contractor in Napa and Sonoma Counties, involving himself in the construction of many regional wineries. As he worked, he discovered a passion for viticulture and began to dream of one day building and running his own winery. In 2009, he moved to Placer County and discovered a ranch in Loomis Basin blessed with rich, volcanic soil and a hundred feet of dry, stacked rock walls. It was, however, badly in need of repair, and that called to him. The rest is history: that space, nestled in Placer Country's Sierra Foothills, would soon become Rock Hill Winery.
It took Don and his family three years to convert the property for wine production, just enough time for their 7,000 bench-grafted vines to spread roots, making Rock Hill one of the largest vineyards in the county. Today, the vineyard grows nine grape varietals, which evoke the special character of the local soil and produce world-class wines.
