Q&A with Barbara & Susan, Owners
What sets your business apart from your competition?
We are family owned and operated and this building had been part of our family for 40 years. December 2014 began an exciting adventure for us. We were approached by The Cape Atlantic Paranormal Research Society aka C.A.P.R.S., they asked if they could investigate our store for Paranormal Activity. Happily we said yes and we are now after a 10 month investigation a Verified “Happily” Haunted Antique and Vintage Store.
What was the inspiration for starting this business?
The love of collecting and finding Treasures.
What is the best reaction you’ve ever gotten from a customer?
A couple of years ago we had an Irish woman stop in with a friend and she purchased a sealed box and I remember the price was $10. Twenty minutes had passed and she came back into the store crying hysterically and she kept saying to me “Do you know what is in this box? Do you know what is in this box?” Of course, me thinking the worse since I had not opened the box, a mouse maybe? The thoughts running through my head of what it could be…. After she calmed down, she explained to me that she was from Ireland and her Father was a Master Cutter for Waterford Crystal. Only Master Cutters were allowed to design and sign their own creations. In this small brown box was a piece of Waterford Crystal made by her Father and signed with his signature. We cried with her. You never know what you are going to find in here…
What’s your favorite part about your job?
There are two things. First and foremost is the people we meet from all over the United States. They come back year after year and we look forward to their return visit and of course the new customers we meet on a daily basis. They all become part of our extended Family here at Ron’s. The second is the thrill of the Hunt. We love finding new pieces for our store and make a point to have new items daily. We have had some pretty amazing Treasures over the past 13 years and continue to do so.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn’t cover?
Although our store has only been opened for 13 years, we have owned this building for 40 years. Our family business was clothing manufacturing and when my parents retired they decided it was time to downsize and what a better place to do so after years and years of collecting we realized we had the perfect space to open Ron’s. Ron passed away 1 1/2 years ago but the name and tradition carries on with his Wife Barbara and Daughter Susan.
