The one-day Rugged Maniac 5K challenges participants to a 3-mile course littered with 14 burly obstacles cribbed from Navy SEAL training grounds. Arizona Cycle Park’s rough terrain welcomes runners with mud-covered obstructions planted throughout its forests, fields, and motocross tracks. Test endurance levels while scaling 7-foot-high walls, shimmying quickly down a high-speed waterslide, or mending clothes after run-ins with the course’s piranha sentries. To eliminate runner roadblocks and obstacle waiting lines, groups of 350 runners start in 30-minute waves throughout the day. An electronic timing system helps clock each participant’s times and alerts officials in case hurdles gain self-awareness.
Post-race, participants chill out at after-party events including live music, grub, and frothy brews. While not invited to the after-party, spectators make their own fun in the festival arena, open for all-day partying backdropped by concerts, nationally recognized brewskis, and festival fare.
