While cheetahs’ bodies are built for speed, humans are designed for endurance, which explains their ability to run marathons, fly coach, and patiently nod through the universe’s endless drum solo. Endure for a cause with today’s Groupon: for $12, you get a race entry to Run for Pals on Sunday, May 29 at 10 a.m. at Seekonk High School (a $22 value). The first 250 entrants get a T-shirt.
Run for Pals is the first in an annual series of races benefitting research and treatment for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis—commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease—which causes the motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord to degenerate. The 5K dash is equivalent to about three miles or 3,000 somersaults. Run for Pals donates proceeds to the Blazeman Foundation for ALS, named for the late triathlete Jon “Blazeman” Blais, who was diagnosed with ALS and went on to complete an Ironman five months later (contestants still “log-roll” across the finish line in his honor). By Benny Hilling the Run for Pals race from start to finish, you’ll help raise awareness and funds for ALS research, treatment, and an eventual cure.
