Nestled with a mill renovated by pub owner Geoff Haughton, The Run of the Mill pleases taste buds yearning for comfort fare with appetizers and 21 hearty entrees. Servers lay initial satiations on diners’ tables instead of setting them in patrons’ handbags, inviting them to nibble chicken quesadillas and bacon-wrapped shrimp and scallops that swan dive into side dishes of chili-lime sauce. Ten stacked sandwiches and 11 entrees await epicureans, who can select such delectables as the drunken pot roast and mac & beer cheese. Frequent strains of live music strummed by local and national acts bounce off the restaurant’s exposed brick walls like Pong balls grooving to Mahler tunes, augmenting meals and libations with aural chow. Though this Groupon is not valid for alcohol purchases, Run of the Mill curates a fine collection of 23 beers crafted throughout the year—glean more here.
The Run of the Mill
Owner Geoff Houghton transformed an abandoned 1830s mill into a bustling pub on Factory Island, a place dominated for centuries by the iron and sawmill industries. Today, the only things milling there are Houghton's handcrafted beers, which flow from The Run of the Mill's 14 barrels straight into the bar's taps. These lagers, ambers, and cask-conditioned ales complement classic pub meals of wings, crab cakes, and burgers. The Run of the Mill also organizes a Mug Club, which awards guests who drink 300 of its beers in one year with a handmade ceramic mug, an official hat or T-shirt, and a heartfelt, bar-top eulogy to all the fallen hops.
