What You'll Get
"If they cut off both hands," Dmitri Shostakovich once told his close friend Isaac Glikman, "I will compose music anyway holding the pen in my teeth." Now, on the 40th anniversary of Shostakovich death, the Russian Chamber Art Society presents its tribute to the greatest Russian composer of the 20th century at the Austrian Embassy in Washington, D.C. Hear Shostakovich's enduring works performed by master singers and instrumentalists of the Russian Romance -- including soprano Jennifer Casey Cabot, mezzo-soprano Magdalena Wor, bass Nikita Storojev, pianists Vera Danchenko-Stern and Tatiana Storojev, and more -- along with the poetry of Alexander Blok and Marina Tsvetaeva. The performance will be followed by a wine and dessert reception.
