Like beauty, comedy is in the eye of the beholder and is often delivered by waves of electromagnetic radiation. Zap your funny bone safely with today's Groupon: for $10, you get two general-admission tickets to your choice of any Anti-Cooperation League or The Syndicate comedy performance at the Sacramento Comedy Spot (a $20 value).
At the Sacramento Comedy Spot, groups and local celebrities bust guts by performing stand-up, sketches, and improv. The long-form Anti-Cooperation League shows, which run every Saturday at 9 p.m., begin with an interview of a special guest, then create a mosaic of dynamic improv scenes inspired by that interrogation. The Syndicate stages its frenetic sketch performances one Friday each month, touting local bands as well as a guest host responsible for making sure the audience knows which direction to face. Sacramento Comedy Spot doesn't sling alcohol, though it shares the Midtown Art, Retail and Restaurant Scene building with several sources of spirits, wine, and beer. Shows are open to all ages but should be considered PG-13 or R, though ghosts and other ageless entities are welcome.
