This intimate world-premiere play explores the life of American icon Benjamin Franklin and his relationship with his son, William. It's a story about family rifts, love of country, and being true to one's beliefs. Both father and son rebel against tyrants: the elder against Britain's King George and young William against his father. The two men spar even as the rolling thunder of the American Revolution approaches -- a war in which they take opposing sides -- and then through the stormy days of the newly formed nation. Ben Franklin's famed lightning experiment, of which young William was the only witness, echoes throughout this new work by local playwright Gary Wright. The Sacramento Theatre Company presents this intriguing story of one of history's greatest heroes -- who, as it turns out, struggled more on the home front than in the public eye.
Running time is two hours and 15 minutes.
