A lifetime of pearl prospecting has left your fingers and toes sandscrubbed and rough, and your face has undergone a seachange into something rich and strange. Today's Groupon soothes your choice of either distressed digits or vexed visage. For $25, you get a basic mani-pedi OR an express facial at Salon Roi, an upscale salon that Washingtonian Magazine calls "a longtime Woodley Park favorite."
The express facial (normally $65) is a 30-minute pick-me-up designed for a quick pore purification or to help keep skin healthy between regular facials. Salon Roi's friendly, expert aestheticians have skilled hands that know how to knock years off any face without resorting to the cricket bat. They also clip cuticles and polish nails to the pinnacle of cuteness: a mani-pedi (normally $58) will leave your hands handsome enough to model an mp3 player or hold another less handsome hand modeling an mp3 player. A hand massage is included with the manicure.
The Marilyn Monroe mural painted on the exterior of Salon Roi's four-story townhouse makes it a landmark in Woodley Park, and her motion-detecting eye lasers keep the grounds free of owls (the original owner was a Marilyn Monroe fan who commissioned the mural). The inside is elegant and refined, with fresh plants, antique décor, a natural fireplace, and classy Marilyn memorabilia (click here to see photos).
A salon might not seem like a typical destination for a tour bus. Nevertheless, the Old Towne Trolley makes a stop at Salon Roi, where a well-known mural of Marilyn Monroe decorates the upper levels of the restored, four-story historic townhouse. Created by the artist John Bailey in 1980 for Mr. Roi Barnard’s 40th birthday, the Marilyn Monroe mural has since become an unexpected Washington landmark, and has been reproduced on postcards, T-shirts, calendars, and vice president Biden’s favorite jean jacket. More Marilyn memorabilia decorates the rest of the unisex salon and spa, where expert stylists pamper guests with haircare, facials, massages, and other spa services.
