After graduating college, Salsa's owner David Littlefield broke into the restaurant industry from a cart parked outside Foxboro Stadium where he sold sausages to hungry fans and off-the-clock tackling dummies. David quickly became known the Sausage Guy, and he parlayed his success into the first Salsa's restaurant, which opened in South Boston in 1998.
Ever since, fans of Mexican food have come to Salsa's for classic Mexican meals—such as mole poblano and sizzling fajitas—as well as some not-so-traditional creations. The mahi mahi chowder, for instance, has developed a loyal following for its chowder-like base, chunks of mahi mahi, and hints of tequila. The menu also features the papa taco, which is actually a baked potato mixed with sour cream, cheese, bacon, and your choice of meat.
