Q:

My husband is the most positive spirit you'll ever meet. He truly is loved by everyone. He meditates daily and radiates from within. Complete strangers have approached him to tell him that they feel his vibe. His only quirk that bugs me is that he likes oral tobacco pouches. He really enjoys it. Would hypnosis help him? Or should I suggest to him to meditate on it. I know he come overcome whatever he puts his mind to. I'm just not sure he wants to quit. Thanks for your input.

Christina, thanks for the note! Your husband sounds amazing but for it to work he has to want to quit. As much as you want him to, he may not actually want to. However, if he sincerely does, I can help. Hope this helps! Kind regards, Jake

Q:

Can your therapy help a 19-year-old bipolar, ADHD male quit smoking pot? He says he can't quit on his own - it seems to me that smoking pot must bring him "good feelings" that he doesn't find otherwise. He's a follower, not a leader, and currently doesn't have very good friends.

Janet G.  asked on  Dec 3, 2012

A:

Hi Janet. If he wants to quit yes, if you are a concerned parent trying to get him to quit when he really doesn't want to, then no. If he is sincerely interested in leaving it behind, I can help him. He he is just saying "yes" to get you off his back, then it may not last. Hope this helps! Best, Jake

Q:

Perhaps a bit of a stretch, but I was curious if hypnosis can help with feelings of Same Gender Attraction. I realize it is a very sensitive issue, but I was wondering if it is possible to reverse those feelings. Has this office dealt with this issue before? What is the success rate?

Mike H.  asked on  Dec 2, 2012

A:

Hi Mike, unfortunately no. There are plenty of medical applications for hypnosis (e.g, pain management, managing IBS, help menopausal women with hot flashes, etc.) but with regards to behavior, the effect is akin to reading a powerfully motivating book or watching a powerful film. Can a book or movie alter one's attraction to the same gender? Maybe a bit, it can help you manage and control the thoughts and so it goes with hypnotherapy, but ultimately life is very complicated. I've had clients insist I try anyway and they reported success but there is no generally accepted academic or clinical research to back up such changes. Hope this helps! Q:

Jake, What is the average amount of visits to overcome a tobacco addiction? My husband says that he'd love to try hypnosis. Thanks. -Christina

Christina T.  asked on  Dec 1, 2012

A:

Hi Christina, thank you for your note! Hypnosis is THE most powerful method known to science. You can see the research yourself, I've listed it up on my website here --> http://the-Hypnotist.com/ (toward the bottom you will see the studies cited). I pride myself on getting people in and out fast but that said, hypnosis is a process is a process, not an event. Some people it takes one time, some people it takes 3 sessions. If your husband is very motivated to quit, we may be able to nail it in just one session. Hope this helps! Best, Jake
