Organized by Thunderbird Artists, whose curators task themselves to connect talented artists with patrons, the Talking Stick Fine Art & Wine Festival spans three days pairing original works by promising creatives with sips of fine wines. The Salt River Fields at Talking Stick’s 140 acres host the festivities, setting the scene for the works of sculptors and photographers with panoramas of majestic mountain tops toasting each other with river basins brimming with red wine. Emerging and established talents display varied pieces, showing off sundry styles including prints, drawings, jewelry, and glasswork. Patrons can nod thoughtfully while admiring featured artist Hal Stewart’s “Pima Indian Basket Lady”—a life-size clay sculpture—or browse collections of ceramics to find an exquisite spittoon. Those opting for the wine tasting can sip a flight of samples while gazing out the window accurately counting the Four Peaks or enthusiastically waving at the Superstition Mountains.

Fun night. It was a comedy to see the players out of their own element. They were having fun, so we were having fun.
