Now that the "F" train no longer stops at Old Market on its way from Grand Central to Tokyo, Omaha needs another way to get its New York City fix. For $15, today’s Groupon punches your Big Apple ticket with $30 worth of authentic New York–style pizza, traditional Italian cuisine, and drinks at Sam & Louie’s. Your Groupon is good for all locations.

Sam & Louie’s pizzas and classy service hearken back to the golden era of Gotham, when the first thin-crusted NY pizza was baked in an art-deco oven by a flapper dating Vito Corleone. The S&L recipe is the closest match to the original 1920s creation. If the hand-tossed house specialty, Sam & Louie’s Best (Italian sausage, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, black olives, red onion, mushrooms, and red and green bell peppers; $15.49 for a 12”, up to $23.99 for an 18”), or the sophisticated Manhattan (creamy alfredo sauce, thin-sliced meatballs, and Canadian bacon) don't satisfy, you can create your own pie from more than 25 fresh toppings. Familiar favorites such as pepperoni, Italian sausage, and mushrooms share wedge-space with buffalo chicken, ricotta cheese, broccoli, and unicorn meat (available seasonally). Prices range from $1.99 per slice up to $14.49 for an 18” of cheese, with each topping costing extra. Available sauces include alfredo, Thai, and pesto.

If your Italian cravings tend to think outside the hand-tossed circle, Sam & Louie’s puts the same care into its menu of traditional favorites, including cheese tortellini ($10.99), fettuccini ($8.49), good old-fashioned spaghetti ($8.49), and the Buffalo Jack stromboli ($8.99) with buffalo chicken, red onion, and peppers. There’s no buy limit per person for today's Groupon, so treat each member of your clone army to a night out before "Zero Hour."

An Insider Pager gives Sam and Louie's a solid four stars, while two Yelpers and two Yahoo! Locals give it 4.5:

  • This is a great place to eat!..it was fast, friendly and great food. The salad dressing is to die for! I will be eating there again! – trouble_11668, Yahoo! Local
  • Our food was fast, hot, and really good. Both of my boys (very picky eaters) devoured two pieces of pizza each...something they NEVER do at home or other places. Ordering was fast and easy, the wait staff was friendly and helpful, and the business was clean. – Jessica R., Insider Pages
  • Service here is great! Love this place and love the T-Rex pizza. – Robert W., Yelp

About Sam & Louie’s

When the Bluejays take the court, you can expect to see a sea of bright blue shirts at the Sam & Louie's at the corner of 24th and Cuming in Omaha. The location has been one of Creighton University's homes away from home since it opened in 1994, but its welcoming atmosphere is found at each of the eatery's 24 locations. There, friends and families bond over great conversation and an eclectic mix of casual cuisine from a menu inspired by traditional New York–style pizzerias. Eighteen specialty pizzas are hand tossed into thin-crust pies before being decorated with more than 35 toppings such as creamy alfredo sauce, sliced Italian meatballs, and canadian bacon. In deference to those with special dietary needs, almost all of these specialty pizzas are available in gluten-free pizzas.

In addition to pizzas, cooks also craft their daily-made dough into calzones and strombolis, which ooze with mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce. The menu culminates in five third-pound Black Angus burgers, Italian hoagies, and eight types of pastas. In addition to hosting guests inside their welcoming pizzerias for both lunch and dinner, the cooks at Sam and Louie's also take their food on the road, offering catering services for events both large and not-so-large.
