Live theater tends to be more thrilling than film, largely due to the heightened odds of seeing someone flub a line or deliver a stirring monologue while sitting in your lap. Vicariously live the freewheeling thespian life with today’s Groupon: for $30, you get one ticket to The Servant of Two Masters, from the non-profit performing arts organization that produced miXtape, at Lamb's Players Theatre in Coronado (up to a $60 value). The show plays Tuesday–Sunday until November 20, 2011, and once again January 5–22, 2012. This Groupon is only valid for shows through January 15, 2012.
An original musical by David McFadzean, a Lamb's Players Theatre staffer and a cocreator of the television show Home Improvement, The Servant of Two Masters is a gut-busting romp of mistaken identity and dubious loyalty. Dressed as her brother, Beatrice travels with her attendant to collect an inheritance, though she doesn't realize he is simultaneously aiding her also-disguised fiancé. An octet of ladies and gentlemen—all married couples offstage—belt through tunes of love and loss while channeling the Old World in colorful costumes, larger-than-life wigs, and Bluetooth headsets.
