What You'll Get

After the sudden death of his artist friend Viktor Hartmann and viewing an extensive art show organized in his remembrance, Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky was inspired to compose Pictures at an Exhibition. An imaginary walk around an art show, this ten-movement composition offers ten different vibes for ten different scenes. During this "Beyond the Score" presentation at Copley Hall with conductor Karina Canellakis leading the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, you'll enjoy not only a performance of the entire beloved work, but also experience actors, a narrator and solo pianist Marc-Andre Hamelin helping to convey the history and context of the piece.
