You'd be hard-pressed to find another artistic work as iconic as Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, and yet, the love theme from Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet Overture-Fantasy might just match the greatness of its source material. In fact, it's been used in so many movies that its opening notes have become synonymous with romance. It's just one of the examples of master composers drawing inspiration from Shakespeare that you'll get to experience at Much Ado About Music, a music-and-ballet tribute from the San Diego Symphony. Also on the program are Prokofiev's "The Montagues and the Capulets," excerpts from Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream and more. Plus, as a special treat, The San Diego Civic Youth Ballet will perform alongside the symphony. And be sure to come early for A Courtly Noyse, a Renaissance-era music ensemble. You won't want to miss this season finale concert at Jacobs Music Center.
This is a concert specifically designed for families with kids ranging in age from 4 to 12. Pre-concert activities for kids start at 1:00pm in the lobby and the concert starts at 2:00pm.
