Adopting a Roaring Twenties theme this year, JLaChic and Top Shelf transform the Westin Hotel’s honeycomb of ballrooms into a series of specialized party stations on New Year’s Eve. In the Flashback Party Room, funk band Top Shelf and DJ Tommy Fullove take advantage of the ambiguous transition of the years to inject some ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s into partygoers’ hips. In the Smooth Jazz room, saxophonist Sonya Jason and her band SaxTigress roll out the classy grooves of Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, and the Yellowjackets. The Concordian Ballroom offers sizzling salsa dancing to the music of DJ Ian de Silva and a live set from Raquel con Bolero y Mas. Throughout the night, comedians Jeff Applebaum and Donald Lacy offer dynamic stand-up comedy, and award-winning magician Chin-Chin displays an uncanny knack for conjuration, pyromancy, and looking cool in a shiny suit.
Festivities begin at 9 p.m. and begin wrapping up at 1:15 a.m., with one final ballroom remaining open until 2 a.m. The party is a black-tie affair, so attendees should arrive in a gown, dress, tuxedo, or dressy dinner jacket and tie.<p>
San Francisco Chic! New Year’s Eve Extravaganza
A black-tie affair with good times in mind, San Francisco Chic! is an annual party that rings in the new year with panache. Held at the Westin Hotel, the party spreads across several different rooms—guests might laugh it up with the comedians in attendance, head over to hear the funk, soul, and rock-and-roll of party hosts Top Shelf, listen to jazz with Sonya Jason, or groove with Raquel con Bolero y Mas! for salsa dancing. Additional packages include dinner theater, a makeshift casino that donates its proceeds to charity, and a bouncer to make sure 1973 doesn’t try to come back for seconds.
