Imagine it's 1735 and you're attending the first Sunday mass of Advent at St. Thomas of Leipzig, where kapellmeister J.S. Bach will be premiering a new cantata. For 20 years, Warren Stewart and Magnificat Baroque Ensemble have recreated just that experience with their concerts, which have become a Bay Area holiday tradition. This year, the ensemble brings you a celebratory Lutheran mass reconstructed from Bach's own handwritten notes on his manuscript of Cantata 62. The program will also include congregational chorales, which you the audience are encouraged to join in on. Held in St. Mark's Lutheran Church, this concert of timeless, joyful music is sure to get you in the holiday spirit.
