The 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition was a world’s fair celebrating both the completion of the Panama Canal and the rebirth of San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake. One of the few surviving buildings constructed for the fair, the Palace of Fine Arts, remains a stunning part of San Fran’s architecture, and will host a spectacular concert by the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Free Band on the centennial of the expo. The concert features works written exclusively for and about the 1915 Worlds Fair, including Amy Beach’s “Panama Hymn,” Camille Saint-Saens’ “Hail California,” John Philip Sousa’s “Pathfinder of Panama March and more. Guest performing groups include Camerata California, Chabot College, Bay Area Rainbow Symphony and more.
