English classical pianist Paul Lewis was quickly recognized as a strong natural talent at the young age of 14, and just eight years later, at 22 years old, he won second prize at the prestigious World Piano Competition. A protégé of Austrian pianist Alfred Brendel, Lewis went on to receive two awards from Gramophone magazine for his recordings of the Beethoven piano sonatas. Brilliantly bridging the gap between highbrow classicism and arena-style virtuosity, Lewis now performs Schubert, Brahms and Liszt at the Herbst Theatre in the San Fransisco War Memorial Building.
