Embark on a musical journey through Europe with the San Francisco Symphony. Illustrious conductor Masaaki Suzuki will make his debut with the orchestra, leading a virtual excursion to Italy, where Felix Mendelssohn was inspired to write his masterpiece, Symphony No. 4, while traveling through this lively country, a trip that included a visit to a carnival where he claimed to have been "assailed by a shower of sugar candies" from a carriage full of lady admirers. This show at Davies Symphony Hall also includes Joseph Haydn's dramatic Symphony No. 95, composed during his first trip to London, along with Mozart's Bassoon Concerto in B-flat Major and Stravinsky's witty Concerto in D Major.
