Maestro Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony share the spotlight with one of the hottest young talents in classical music for their season opener at Davies Hall, as Russian wunderkind Daniil Trifonov performs Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2. Though he’s just 24 years old, the expressive Trifonov’s taken the concert world by storm as a pianist and composer, winning medals at the Chopin, Rubinstein and Tchaikovsky Competitions, three of the most prestigious contests in the world. This kickoff concert is also set to feature Ravel’s charming Menuet antique, Rossini’s Overture to La scala di seta and Respighi’s Roman Festivals.
