What You'll Get
History is like Frankenstein's monster: all it takes to make it come alive is the right education, a large body of artifacts exhumed from the earth, and an electrical storm. Today's Groupon to the San Joaquin County Historical Museum, located in Micke Grove Regional Park in Lodi, reanimates local history. Choose between the following options:
• For $4, you get two teen (ages 13–17) or senior (ages 65+) admission tickets (an $8 value).
• For $5, you get two adult admission tickets (a $10 value). Children's tickets may be purchased at the museum for $2. This Groupon does not include the Micke Grove Regional Park parking fee.
San Joaquin County Historical Museum preserves the posterity of more than 50,000 local historic items—including Native American, pioneer, and agricultural artifacts—dispersed and displayed on more than 18 acres, eight exhibit buildings, and four historic buildings. Visit the one-room Calaveras School, take pioneer-décor tips from Stockton founder Charles Weber's cottage, or study historic tactics in roadrunner-coyote warfare in a working blacksmith's shop that dates to the 1880s. Kids can ooh and ahh over special dioramas and a children's gallery and dream of growing up to become the 24,000-pound, gas-guzzling, till-wheeled behemoth known as the 1919 Holt 75 Caterpillar tractor, currently being restored to full working order.
A small gift shop stocks history's houseguests with maps, books, and old-fashioned toys that require no batteries, electricity, or zombie-killing avatars. After finishing your tour of the museum, step back into the present by roaming the 258-acre Micke Grove Regional Park, a destination popular to visitors for its zoo, three-acre lake, and Japanese garden.
