The perfect food and wine pairing is like the fateful meeting of destined lovers, best celebrated with a tiny mock wedding presided over by a curmudgeonly pepper mill with a heart of gold. Combine cuisine and wine the way nature intended with today's deal: for $23, you get a wine and food pairing educational seminar from Sand Hill Vineyards (a $49 value). The award-winning vineyard is located in Geary, less than an hour's drive west of Oklahoma City, but the seminar will be held at the Oklahoma City North campus of Platt College.
Join chef Robin L. Obert-Magturo, a culinary arts instructor and sommelier at Platt College, and Andrew Snyder, a wine maker and professor at Redlands Community College, as they guide you through a palate-pleasing menu of six wines and six amuse-bouches, or bite-size appetizers, accompanied by an hour-and-a-half presentation. Learn the art of pairing wine and food, and gain a deeper appreciation of vino as you evaluate varieties using sight, smell, taste, and low-frequency sonar. Taste Sand Hill’s Chenin blanc, pinot grigio, chardonnay, merlot, cabernet, and Norton varieties, some of which have won acclaim from the Pacific Rim Wine Competition and the Amenti del Vino International Wine Competition.
Workshops will be held on 24 Tuesday evenings over the next 12 months; see sidebar for tentative dates.
