Sanibel Island Golf Club
Given Sanibel Island Golf Club's place on the namesake coastal resort island, it's expected that many of its holes would feature water. On this count, the course lives up to its billing, with all holes but four featuring water hazards of some kind. What is surprising, however, is that most of these water hazards are caused by the Sanibel River, not the Gulf of Mexico or natural mojito reservoirs, as might be expected. Even so, tropical ambiance pervades the 6,006-yard course, with palm trees, waterfowl, and colorful foliage surrounding golfers at every yardage marker. Keeping golf balls high-and-dry may prove a challenge to many golfers—particularly on closing holes 15, 16, 17, and 18, which stretch alongside the river—but those who do can head into the Blue Coyote Supper Club for lunch with their golf-ball collection intact.
