What You'll Get
Running was popular in Europe long before it caught on in America, which is why most races are measured in kilometers instead of miles and why most of the Pilgrims were eaten by bears. Race to the top of the food chain with today's Groupon: for $17, you get entrance to the Santa Hustle 5K Indianapolis on Saturday, December 17 at 9 a.m. (up to a $40 value). Entry fees are $35 in advance and $40 after December 10.
Kicking off from White River State Park’s Celebration Plaza, the Santa Hustle 5K sends sprinters through a seasonal landscape donned in the trappings of tender St. Nick. After snagging their free Santa hat, beard, and T-shirt at check-in, runners will set off through a course sprinkled with live reindeer, candy stations, giant inflatable Santas, and mile markers built out of last year’s fruitcake. The day's race will culminate in a bustling after party, and benefits Back on My Feet, a nonprofit that combats homelessness using running as a way to build confidence, strength, and self-esteem. Along with medals for the top three finishers in each age category, judges will award prizes for the best individual and group Santa costume. All 5K runners will also be recorded through disposable ChampionChip timing chips, which report back both a runner’s split times and if they’ve been stealing pudding packs from their little brother's lunch box.
