A Chat with Sarasota Karate Club
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
Quality instructors. Sensei has been in Hayashi-ha Shito-ryu karate for 25 years, holds a 4th degree black belt, and numerous national and international gold medals. She has trained in Japan with top karate instructors, and has taught yoga for over 15 years to adults and children.
What's one tip for first-time students that will make them feel like veterans? Remember that it takes time for your body and mind to connect. Karate is lifetime study, and learning the balance of soft and hard, fast and slow, and knowing what your body and mind are capable of, is a new lesson every time you practice.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business? Sensei's parents (as well as uncle) owned dojos and taught karate all of her life, so this is something that is familiar and worked for.
What do you love most about your job? Seeing the transformation that takes place in both children and adults when they become students. Confidence, as well as both physical and mental improvements. The ultimate goal of karate is not just technique perfection, but character improvement through humility, respect, control and compassion.
