Sarasota School of Glass
The Sarasota School of Glass invites artisans into its studio to learn the techniques of fusing, casting, and slumping home decor accessories such as dishes, bowls, and vases. Projects begin with fusing, where students layer pieces of colored glass into creative designs and melt them in a kiln, turning the parts into one solid piece. The second firing is called slumping or kiln forming, where the fused glass is heated in a mold until it takes on the desired shape. This project begins with cold working the glass on the grinder and then working the glass with diamond abrasive pads to a fine, soft edge. The studio and kiln are also available for independent artists creating their own pieces or heating up their lunch.
