Great tour around Greenwich Village and the guide was excellent! Lots of history about life there in the 1960's. You receive a set of photos taken during the time and then revisit the same places to see how they have changed since then, fascinating! Luckily most of the buildings have been preserved so lots of lovely architecture to look at as well. Definitely recommend!

About A Chat with Save the Village Tours

What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
Other tours tell you how it used to be, This tour SHOWS you, as everyone gets a keepsake multi-postcard set of classic Fred W. McDarrah images and the tours go to the same locations to see how they have changed, how they are the same, and to hear the stories behind the famous photos.

What is the experience customers can expect?
A fun look back at how Greenwich Village used to be. And equally important, tourgoers will learn about the importance of striking a balance between progress and preservation. And see where Dylan met Ginsberg, where Hendrix hung out and other Village landmarks.

What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
The tour is based on a blockbuster photo exhibit at the Steven Kasher Gallery in Chelsea in 2014. The exhibition ended, but the interest in Greenwich Village in the 1960s and McDarrah's documentation of the changing scene did not wane one bit. So the tour idea was born.

What do you love most about your job?
Educating and entertaining people about my neighborhood.
