Q:

I am nervous to send my original wedding photos from 1978. Is there a location that I can drop them off personally ? I live in NYC

Eileen D.  asked on  Dec 29, 2012

A:

ScanMyPhotos.com, founded back in 1990 is a leader in the photo imaging industry and professionally scans tens of millions of photos. You may use any shipping company you that are most comfortable with. However, we cannot warrantee or guarantee courier deliveries. You can send via signature confirmation and other specialty services and we do digitally archive and backup your entire order for 15-days as an added precaution. That said, the real problem is if you don’t have your pictures digitized, as then they do risk getting tucked away at home and misplaced, inadvertently thrown away, faded or lost due to fire, flood, etc. so either way there is a risk involved. If you don't use us, we HIGHLY recommend digitizing and backing up your photos ASAP. When redeeming your Groupon, photos are shipped to the following address: ScanMyPhotos.com Groupon 300 DPI Photo Scanning 3 Corporate Park Ste 160 Irvine, CA 92606 Exact redemption instructions will be included on your Groupon voucher, after making the purchase. Q:

Photos have been taken over 18 years. Is there a big difference between 300 and 600 resolution?

Patricia  asked on  Dec 28, 2012

A:

Thanks for the question.
DPI stands for "dots per square inch." A picture with 300 DPI will have half the resolution of an image with 600 DPI. Hope that helps to clarify.

Andy C.  from  Groupon  replied on  Dec 28, 2012

A:

300 DPI is good for print reproduction of the same size or for viewing on a computer. 600 DPI is better to "future-proof" your photos. As screen resolutions increase, so will your scanned images to maintain viewing quality. Additionally, scanning at a higher resolution allows for larger, crisper photo reproductions. For example, a 4x6 scanned at 300 DPI can reproduce a 4x6 or a 5x7 print whereas a 600 DPI scan can print up to 16x20. Please visit http://www.scanmyphotos.com/300v600dpi.php for more information.
