"Leave a little to the imagination" is a wise mantra for filmmakers and fashion designers, but terrible advice for rollycoaster engineers. Show off your imagination in an appropriate setting with today's Groupon: for $27, you get four drop-in classes at Scandalesque (a $68 value). Scandalesques' drop-in classes are held Mondays at 7 p.m. and Wednesdays at 8 p.m. at the Al Moro Studio location or 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays at the Abby Bella location.
Featured on Fox10 News and in Phoenix News Times’ Best of 2008 Readers’ Choice list, Scandalesque entices eyes with a spicy combo of burlesque and cabaret singing, dancing, and skin baring. Instructed by a bevy of professional body benders, Scandalesques' drop-in classes can turn shy wallflowers into center-stage warriors, and offers vigorous workouts via dance training and conditioning. Teach toes to twinkle and hips to tease with a Burlesque Jazz Dance class, or brush up on the proper do's and don'ts of choosing alter egos in Burlesque Dance. Limited burlesque props are on hand to incorporate into dance routines or briefly wear as an eccentric hat; consult the website for schedule changes.
The Phoenix New Times named Scandalesque Best Burlesque in its 2008 Reader's Choice awards. KSAZ Fox 10 and the New Times profiled the burlesque troupe. Three Yelpers give Scandalesque an average of 4.5 stars.
- The performers in Scandalesque are very talented, and the choreography fantastic! – Chadwick F., Yelp, 2/28/10
PS Alternative Dance & Fitness
Like the opposite of eyelids, the curtains at PS Alternative Dance & Fitness open to a dream world of garish costumes, pyrotechnics, circus arts, and sensuality. This nexus of fantasy and real life is produced in-house and performed by PS Alternative Dance & Fitness’s troupe of professional burlesque artists. Leading them, cofounders Lady Fontayne and Pyrrha Sutra, as they're known on stage, strive to curate an atmosphere where outlandishness flashes atop proper technique and artistry. When the troupe isn’t pushing the envelope and toppling mailmen, they’re teaching burlesque, adult-dance, and fitness classes throughout the week.
