Academic institutions dedicated to rock and/or roll tend to offer superficial seminars such as Intro to Crowd Surfing, Advanced Hair Growth, and Incendiary Entrances. Give your child a proper music-based education in the rockish arts with today's Groupon at the School of Rock. This Groupon can be used at the Evanston or Highwood locations. Choose from the following options:

  • For $125, you get one month of Rock 101 for students ages 7–18 (a $250 value).
  • For $10, you get two tickets to a School of Rock show (a $20 value).

The School of Rock provides contemporary musical instruction to pint-sized rockers of all ages and abilities. There is no experience required to enroll in Rock 101. Wannabe Jaggers and Springsteens can select their weapon of choice from a finely tuned arsenal of guitars, bass guitars, drums, keyboards, saxophones, or voice boxes and immediately commence beat-based training. Students receive one-on-one tutelage in the art of rocking out during a weekly 45-minute private lesson and deploy ensemble rhythms during a 90-minute group rehearsal. Real musicians provide performance-based instruction in a low-stress atmosphere, conducive to the cultivation of confidence, skill, and pigeon-free signature stage moves.

Or leave the music making to the semi-professionals and catch a performance by some of the School of Rock's veteran showstoppers. Relive favorite Fab Four moments at The Beatles cover show in Evanston on January 9, or bask in the Highwood location's classic sounds of Queen (January 23), Pink Floyd (January 30), and Metallica (January 30) at Austin's Saloon in Libertyville. The family-friendly shows are a great way to introduce your children to the sounds of your youth without staging scenes from old diary entries. Check the schedule here.
