What You'll Get
Americans have long held a fascination with extreme feats of balance, from Custer's infamous handstand at Little Bighorn to Charles Lindbergh's first transatlantic tightrope walk. Claim a spot in the history books with today's Groupon: for $99, you get two 90-minute surfing or skateboarding lessons at The School of Shred (up to a $200 value). Lessons are held at the Pedlow Field Skate Park in Los Angeles and at Zuma Beach in Malibu. Skateboarding lessons include the use of helmets, and surfing students can rent wetsuits for an additional fee ($20).
School of Shred owner and instructor Corey Oswald brings more than 18 years of wave-, snow-, and ramp-riding experience to private lessons for students of all ages. During 90-minute surfing lessons, wave newbies first get acquainted with their boards by taking them on a romantic walk down the beach before mastering the basics of lying flat and paddling through the waves. Once in deeper water, ocean-o-philes can practice standing and balancing on their boards as they attempt to catch their first waves and trick them into carrying them back to the shore. Similarly timed skateboarding lessons teach students to race through enclosures and propel themselves up curved ramps, granting them the confidence to show off their moves in local skate parks and inside M.C. About The School of Shred
If you didn't know any better, it would be easy to assume that The School of Shred is a place to learn guitar, or at least a place to practice the art of destroying important documents. Instead, the school teaches its students how to shred through waves, shred across pavement, and shred down mountainsides. It's a fitting business name for owner Corey Oswald, who has seemingly spent more of his life moving on some kind of board than on his own two feet. Corey has more than 20 years of experience surfing, skateboarding, and snowboarding. But today, and for nearly a decade now, he helps others get their shred on by offering group and private lessons in all three sports.
