What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
We are a family-owned, authentic German bakery and restaurant in San Antonio. All our products are made fresh from scratch at our location. Pastries and breads are baked daily. Our meals are made to order, following only traditional German recipes. Eat and snack in our friendly, home-like atmosphere.
What is one of your most popular offerings? How is it prepared?
Our most popular entrees are our schnitzel meals. This is a pork loin, specially tenderized, spiced, and breaded German style, then pan fried until golden brown and tender. It is served with your choice of a dark mushroom sauce, light cream sauce, or just a slice of lemon. Each served with two sides.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
My inspiration to open my bakery came from neighbors and friends. I’m a trained pastry chef from Germany. Everybody loved my baked goods and there was no German bakery in San Antonio. After a while the customers from my bakery who tried our specials convinced me to open a German restaurant.
What do you love most about your job?
The best part of my job is my customers. I get to meet all kinds of different people from San Antonio and the surrounding areas. I love to make their days a little sweeter.
Schugga Bakery tickles tongues with quintessentially Teutonic delights such as apple strudel, raisin-sprinkled schneckennudel, and Danube wave cake, filled with sour cherries and topped with chocolate. Savory options such as schnitzel sandwiches, potato soup, and daily lunch specials offer more substantial lunch options.
