If music feeds the soul, composers are nutty-haired chefs who artfully arrange three-course sonatas to the delight of hungering psyches. Indulge in an earful with today’s Groupon: for $10, you get one ticket to see Kaleidoscope at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 16 at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts (a $20 value). Seating is reserved, but Groupon holders may select any available seat.
Featuring the tuneful talents of 250 student and faculty musicians from Columbus State University’s Schwob School of Music, Kaleidoscope sates the raging ravenousness of harmony-hungry cochleas. The 70-minute concert hosts a cavalcade of musical styles and genres, including jazz, musical theater, and freestyle bagpiping. Musicians play from various locations throughout the Bill Heard Theatre, a strategy that enhances mellifluous melodies while testing the performers' abilities to follow the conductor as they hang from the rafters or act as a concertgoer’s armrest. Audiences are treated to the sonorous stylings of the school’s large ensembles that feature performances by award-winning soloists, chamber ensembles, and elvish spoken-word troupes.
