Like a tattoo parlor, gardens feature vivid pigments, clusters of needles, and an abundance of butterflies. Get your property inked with today’s Groupon: for $20, you get $40 worth of plants at Scioto Gardens in Delaware.
Scioto Gardens grows and sells a wide selection of plants native to central Ohio, including perennials, ferns, flowering shrubs, and a variety of rare and unusual species. Phlox plants ($11) are available in a variety of colors, from white to pink to pale blue, and the yellow trillium ($15) emits a pleasant lemon scent. The Minuet lilac ($34) opens fragrant lavender flowers each spring, attracting birds, butterflies, and bee mascots. Native little bluestem grasses ($11) magically transform poor, dry soil into a rich display of greens, oranges, and reds, and barren strawberries ($11) sprout bright yellow flowers. Grown in a blend of local soil and nutrient-rich compost, Scioto Gardens' plants quickly put down roots at their new homes. Each leaf-creature is also treated with special fungi that help roots absorb water, nutrients, and the logic behind complex math equations.
Owned by the horticulturalist duo of Michael and Linda Johnson, Scioto Gardens supports green growing practices and teaches customers how to plant eco-friendly rain gardens and native woodlands. In addition to selling native species, the couple offers exotic plants that don't disrupt local ecosystems with water-hogging roots and pesky pollen graffiti.
