Prior to mankind’s quest for flight, human beings sought to uncover the mysteries of the sea but were thwarted by herds of wild seaplanes. Step into the modern age with today’s Groupon to Scuba Quest. Choose between locations in Bradenton, Brandon, Sarasota, and Venice, between the following options:
- For $169, you get a scuba-certification class (a $350 value).
- For $49, you get a scuba-refresher class (a $199 value).<p>
Scuba Quest certifies underwater explorers with pool and open-water instruction, both on the beach and aboard U.S. Coast Guard–approved vessels. The NAUI Platinum dive center’s courses lead groups of up to eight students through classroom sessions—complete with supplied textbooks, workbooks, record folders, dive tables, and logbooks—before heading to the indoor pool for hands-on instruction. After mastering indoor dive techniques, classes move out to sea, with three plunges from the beach and two firings from a boat equipped with authentic cannons. Instructors furnish tanks, buoyancy compensators, regulators, and gauges, although patrons must supply their own masks, snorkels, fins, weight belts, and weights. Courses conclude with certification registration, providing divers with certification cards and complimentary dolphin-to-English dictionaries.
Experienced divers seeking a reintroduction to the art can flash their certification cards and twirl their seaweed-entangled mustaches for entry into the refresher course.
Imagine for a moment diving into the ocean, resurfacing with not only memories of the sub-aquatic environment, but a full reel of photographs, too. Underwater photography is just one of the many courses offered at Scuba Quest, a family-owned company that has shown students how to safely explore the seas for more than 25 years.
Scuba Quest began as a single shop, but has since spread to four locations across the state of Florida. At each, the company’s NAUI-certified instructors lead refresher courses, beginner classes, and comprehensive certification programs. Rather than climbing into fish tanks while pet-store clerks are on break, Scuba Quest's students can put their new skills to the test in unfamiliar waters during the company’s exotic diving excursions throughout Florida.
