Q:

Hi - I have two questions. The one time $75 fee to rent gear, is that for all pool sessions or just the open water dive? Also, do you have a calendar of when you hold your classes?

Amanda J.  asked on  Dec 17, 2012

A:

Good Morning Amanda and thank you for your questions. The $75 fee (normally $150) is for the open water dives only. It included the rental of: BCD, Regulator, Tanks, Weights, 7mm Wetsuit, Hood, Gloves, and Dive Computer). You pay this at the time you take your Open Water Dives. During your pool sessions we provide the scuba gear (it is included). The only gear we do not provide and you need to are your mask, snorkel, boots and fins. We have a great selection at the shop and have discounts available to our students. You may look at the Open Water Diver page here: http://scubasensations.com/classes/intro-classes/open-water-diver/ and the schedule here: http://scubasensations.com/open-water-discover-scuba-schedule/. Lastly Amanda, you must redeem your GroupOn within the 120 days, but you have util October 31, 2013 to start your lessons. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Q:

I recently got my Open Water certification (up to 40ft) using the PADI eLearning course, which I still have access to. Does the eLearning course cover the same material as the PADI Adventures in Diving Manual and DVD described on your website that are required for Advanced Open Water? Or does the eLearning course cover the same material that is covered in the in-person class sessions? And in either case, are these materials extra, or included in that Groupon?

Allison T.  asked on  Dec 19, 2012

A:

Hi Allison. Congratulations on your Open Water Certification! If you purchased the eLearning for the Open Water class, that only covers material for the Open Water class. If you wanted to do the Advanced Open Water online, you would purchase that course for $130. The GroupOn covers the cost of the training (all 5 dives) and the certification processing. You can either do the eLearning course or just buy the book for $40 + tax. The material is the same other than you will have videos and such online. Either way, you will still do the coursework with the instructor on the day of the dives. We cover the knowledge reviews for the dives we are doing that day before we complete the dives. The materials are not included in the GroupOn Allison. If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Q:

Hi for the certification package what extra costs are not included in the $249 fee? Since you stated above that the local dives would not be until mid may, if I completed he course/pool work in Jan or Feb would the couse work still count once it is time for me to do my dives in May? Last question when are the classes held, days/times? Thanks so much

Ryan K.  asked on  Dec 18, 2012

A:

Hi Ryan. The fee covers the cost of the training (3 classroom sessions, 3 pool training sessions, 2 days open water dive training completing 4 dives and your certification processing). You would purchase your course materials which are $50 + tax. Also, you provide your own Mask, Snorkel, Boots and Fins. If you don't have those items, we have a great selection, and work with you on getting the best items for you. When the time comes for the Open Water Dives, you pay the $75 (normally $150) cost for renting the gear you need for the Open Water Dives ( BCD, Regulator, 2 Tanks, Weights, 7mm Wetsuit, Hood, Gloves, and Dive Computer). The facility we do the open water training at, Haigh Quarry in Kankakee, charges $20 per day entry fee and you pay to refill your tanks for the second day ($16 i believe). Regarding being able to complete the dives in May Ryan, absolutely. You may take a look here for some details on the GroupOn: http://scubasensations.com/groupon-december-2012/. From that page you can link the Open Water Class page: http://scubasensations.com/classes/intro-classes/open-water-diver/ as well as look at our class schedule: http://scubasensations.com/open-water-discover-scuba-schedule/. I hope this helps Ryan. If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Q:

Hi, What does the "intro open water diver class and pool session" include? Would that be class 1 and pool 1, according to the schedule? Thanks.

Maia D.  asked on  Dec 17, 2012

A:

Hi Maia. The GroupOn includes 3 class sessions (Class 1, 2 & 3 and 3 pool sessions (Pool 1, 2 & 3). If you get the full certification, it includes the same thing plus the 4 Open Water Dives. When you are looking at the schedule, you would look to schedule 6 different sessions (the 3 class and 3 pool). You may do them in several different ways, all class first then all pool, or Class 1, then Pool 1, Class 2, then Pool 2, etc. The only rule that must be followed is each class session must be completed the corresponding pool session, whether it is immediately before or by completing all the classwork then pool work. I hope this makes sense Maia. If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Q:

As someone who previously purchased a Groupon to use on an intro course at Scuba Sensations, and who came away highly-satisfied and safely-trained, my question to the Merchant is this: Is it even possible that there is a kinder, more patient, more attuned to safety and individualized instruction, and more hilarious SCUBA instructor in this hemisphere than Rami? My guess is "NO"

A:

Wow Gabe! Thank you. I hope you and Michelle are doing great and have some good diving ahead of you!

Q:

Hello, I need my husband to get scuba certified for our honeymoon which is scheduled for february. After completion of this course, and paying the ($350) including fees for rental equipment for the open water dives, will he receive his PADI scuba license? Also if we purchase this groupon for him, will be be able to complete the open water dives before our trip February 6th? Next, I have my PADI license and I need a refresher course so that when we go on our honeymoon we can just pay for the dives that we go on. (It has been about 2 years since my last dive) How much would this cost me? Please let me know when you get a chance. Thanks

Valerie  asked on  Dec 17, 2012

A:

Hi Valerie. The best option for your husband is the referral course given your time frame. It is not possible to complete the Open Water Dives locally until about mid-May. The referral course, Class & Pool, will leave him set to complete his Open Water Dive on your trip. He will complete 4 dives over 2 days. Depending on where you go, and how they do things, you may be with him on the same dives, but he will be working with an instructor for the first part of the dives then enjoying a dive with you on the second part. Regarding the Refresher Valerie, it's easy to setup. The fee is $80. We can arrange it during one of the pool sessions your husband is in, or a different one. Generally they are on Monday or Thursday nights or Saturday afternoons depending on availability. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
