Instructors introduce new divers to thrills of undersea exploration & teach PADI six-week open-water scuba-certification courses
Similar to tickling a bear without losing an arm, the art of breathing underwater requires years of practice and dedication. Introduce your lungs to aqueous awareness with this Groupon.
Choose from Three Options
- $12 for a Discover scuba diving class (a $25 value)
- $200 for an open-water-diver PADI–certification class without open dives, including an academic online class (a $405 value)
- $240 for an open-water-diver PADI–certification course with open dives (a $485 value)

During the one-hour Discover scuba diving class, nautical explorers strap on rental gear and plunge into an indoor pool while guided by experienced instructors. Students learn basic scuba skills and safety rules as well as how to control diving depths, monitor air supply, and sing Air Supply’s “All Out of Love” through the respirator. During Scuba Shack’s six-week open-water-diver PADI–certification class, dive masters lead novice swimmers through the academic and practical aspects of deep-water exploration. The weekly course renders success in underwater breathing and a chance to complete certification dives. Gear is not included, however, so divers must bring their own or purchase a mask ($45–$90), snorkel ($32–$50), fins ($55–$180), and boots ($34–$70) from Scuba Shack’s onsite store. In addition to the included online academic course, divers must purchase an eLearning-enhancement pack to track their progress and dives ($40).

About Scuba Shack
When Scuba Shack's founders attained their first certifications more than 34 years ago, they were frustrated with the inadequate teaching they received. As their dive careers continued, that dissatisfaction led them to create Scuba Shack, where their goal is to imbue every one of their lessons with tangible value for burgeoning divers. Their class schedule brims with PADI–certification courses, and introductory scuba classes help beginners to recite the first 100 decimals of pi before coming to the surface for air. The shack also has an onsite store overflowing with necessary gear such as snorkels, fins, and masks, required for many of the Scuba Shack's classes or group-travel dives.
