SEA LIFE Aquarium Kansas City

The scenes inside Sea Life's tanks are like a Where's Waldo? book come to life, except the protagonists within the underwater tableau aren't awkwardly dressed like candy canes. Thousands of fish swirl through the waters, and you could easily spend hours picking out specific species.

Seahorses, on the other hand, swim in open view. So does other marine life—especially once you enter the ocean tunnel, which simulates the experience of walking across the ocean floor. Make sure you keep a lookout for the rescued Green Sea Turtle, Gertrude and give her a wave. Blacktip reef sharks roam overhead and flash their menacing teeth at the cownose stingrays, who appear to smile back.

The aquarium's more interactive attractions explain what makes undersea life so appealing. At the touchpool, for instance, education hosts explain the lives of coastal creatures, letting visitors touch everything in the exhibit, including sea stars and horseshoe crabs.

Even though Sea Life's Kansas City location holds more than 260,000 gallons of water, only so many creatures can call the aquarium home. Sea Life operates more than 40 aquariums and 3 marine sanctuaries in more than 11 countries. To help marine life outside its walls, Sea Life also runs and participates in many conservation campaigns and programs. Sea Life aquariums rescue seals, find permanent homes for disabled sea turtles, and breed nine kinds of seahorses to help protect the endangered species from extinction.

Customer Reviews

Nice but small (compared to other aquariums we've been to). Has some very good interactive areas for kids & grown kids.

My husband and I enjoyed our walk through. Thanks for all you do.
Janice H. · November 24, 2016
The kids (1 and 2) loved it - most of the tanks were eye-level for them and they loved going from tank to tank. Very fun, but pretty small. Definitely only worth it if you have a groupon.
