Though he's not yet old enough to drive a car, young violin prodigy Shintaro Taneda made his solo debut with the Seattle Festival Orchestra last season, and now he's been invited back to perform selected movements from Edouard Lalo's Spanish-tinged Symphonie Espagnole, known for its technical challenges. This SFO performance at Town Hall, under the skilled baton of music director Wesley Schulz, is set to open with Beethoven's Overture to Egmont and close with Dvorak's Symphony No. 6. Written for a Viennese audience, this melodic work boasts elements of the waltz, along with Dvorak's favored Czech folk songs, and is said to have been influenced by both Beethoven and Brahms, who was a treasured mentor-like figure to the young composer.
