Musical theater is much like standard theater, except the performers deliver lines to catchy rhythms, dance, and smash piñatas on stage during set changes. Today’s Groupon delves into song and dance with a $15 ticket to the Seattle Musical Theatre’s production of Company in Warren G. Magnuson Park (normally $30). Choose from seven performance dates, including nighttime shows and matinees, throughout the rest of February and witness musical storytelling more riveting than songs about properly filling out tax forms.

On stage, performers transform through costumes and song, touching on topics that might normally go untouched. Seattle Musical Theatre is solely dedicated to the musical and has put on many of the nation’s most popular, which have touch the untouched for more than 30 years. Now, the company is presenting a presentation of Stephen Sondheim’s Company. A show about living with love, Company is the story of 35-year-old Robert, whose playboy habits reflect upon the joys and distresses of five couples until he makes a realization about the role romance plays in a person’s life. You can evaluate your love ruminations through hopscotching tunes such as “You Could Drive a Person Crazy” and “Marry Me a Little.”

Seattle Musical Theatre performs its shows in an intimate, 400-seat theater in Magnuson Park. Sunday matinees have open seating (first come, first served) while Thursday, Friday, and Saturday shows grant priority seating in the middle of section B and the front rows of side seating, as shown by this seating chart.

Though there are no reviews yet for Company, Seattle Musical Theatre’s past performances have had rave reviews from the Seattle Times, the Herald, Seattle Gay News, and The Broadway Hour Seattle: > * The choreography is more than dance steps. There are very funny interactions with characters that are contained in a song-and-dance sequence, if you pay attention. – Miryam Gordon, Seattle Gay News > * The cast of local actors ably handles the light-hearted ensemble songs, the mournful moments, and the occasional quite complex harmony…[the director and choreographer] never hits too hard with the jokes, keeping the pace light during the humorous moments and not taking the puns seriously. While it shifts in mood and has its share of mournful moments, the play keeps continuously moving and never loses its audience. – Kenna M. Kettrick, The Broadway Hour Seattle
