Some of history's greatest conductors were also significant and influential composers. Join the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Music Director Adam Stern, as they focus on several of these illustrious musicians during Four Great Composer-Conductors at Benaryoya Hall. First they'll shine a spotlight on Leonard Bernstein's magnificent score for the musical West Side Story. Thoroughly groundbreaking, this piece of music was inspired by jazz, Latin, and classical music. You'll also hear Felix Mendelssohn's Hebrides, a tone poem that hints at the beauty of solitude and rolling waves. SPO's Principal Clarinet William Blayney performs Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, one of the Austrian master's most poignant concertos. Finally, hear Symphony No. 1 by the great Hungarian-born composer-conductor Antal Doráti.
